ISLAMABAD: In a collaborative effort between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circles, successful raids were conducted against two mobile phone company franchises to curb illegal issuance of SIMs.

The raids were conducted in Sharaqpur Sharif of Punjab and Kandhkot of Sindh.

The primary objective of these operations was to combat the illicit issuance of SIM cards, a practice often linked to criminal activities such as fraud, identity theft, and other unlawful operations, as stated in a news release on Friday.

As a result of the raids, 13 active SIM cards were confiscated, and 08 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, utilized for the illegal activation of SIM cards, were seized.

The owner of the Sharqpur Sharif franchise has been apprehended, while two individuals associated with the Kandkot franchise have been named in the FIR.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is currently investigating these cases, underscoring the ongoing crackdown against the unlawful issuance of SIM cards and emphasizing PTA’s commitment to eliminating this menace.
