ISLAMABAD: Internet services provided by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) have been severely disrupted across the country, affecting connectivity in multiple cities. The issue has been confirmed by PTCL, Netblocks, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local media reported on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, a PTCL spokesperson acknowledged the disruption, stating, “Currently, the PTCL network is facing data outage in various cities due to which connectivity has been affected. Our teams are actively working to resolve and rectify the issue at the earliest.”

The disruption has garnered significant attention from digital governance organizations. Netblocks, an organization specializing in tracking internet outages and connectivity, confirmed the scale of the problem, saying, “Live network data show a nation-scale disruption to internet connectivity in Pakistan.” Netblocks’ metrics indicated that national connectivity levels were reduced to just 24% of normal, aligning with widespread user reports of a significant outage.

The PTA also addressed the situation, confirming the internet disruption and attributing it to a fault within the PTCL system. The regulatory authority stated on social media, “Internet services have suffered up to some extent in certain parts of the country due to a fault in the PTCL system.”

The PTA assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and working with PTCL to restore normal service levels as quickly as possible.

Users across Pakistan have reported widespread issues with their internet connections, with many experiencing intermittent outages and slow speeds. The disruption has affected both personal and professional activities, highlighting the critical role of stable internet connectivity in daily life.
