ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to hold countrywide protests at 5pm on Saturday (today).

In a tweet earlier, PTI Central Secretary General Asad Umar said that the party will hold more nationwide protests on Saturday in all major cities across the country. He said that the venue of the Islamabad protest rally will be disclosed by the local party leadership.

“Show them that no one can suppress a truly free nation. I will participate in the protest at Liberty Chowk, Lahore,” he said.

Asad made his statement shortly after PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan announced that he would issue another call for a long march on Islamabad as soon as he recovered from his gunshot wounds.

During an interaction with the media at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital Lahore, Imran said “I would take to the streets as soon as I am discharged from the hospital, and lead the long march on Islamabad.”

He urged the public to show up in large numbers to demonstrate against the assassination attempt on his life, emphasising that protests would continue until the accused behind the attack were arrested.

The PTI leader said that he had been foretold about the threat to his life between Wazirabad and Gujrat. “I had already discovered that there was a plan in place to kill me.”

Imran said that he had been shot twice and said it was only by the grace of God that he survived the assault.
