ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that independent candidates supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could potentially form a government in the Centre, provided they secure the necessary seats in the National Assembly.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Shehbaz Sharif stated, “If PTI-backed candidates can demonstrate majority in the National Assembly, then they are welcome to form a government.” He further expressed readiness for his party to assume the role of opposition if PTI-backed candidates manage to establish their dominance in the lower house of parliament.
Highlighting the PML-N’s strength, Shehbaz Sharif revealed, “We now have 80 members after independents joined our party.” He also asserted that more independent lawmakers are expected to align with the PML-N in the near future.
Shehbaz Sharif Invites All Political Parties to Form Coalition Govt
Despite the PML-N’s failure to secure a majority in the recent elections, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the party’s commitment to their leader, stating, “I am still standing by my words that Nawaz Sharif will become the prime minister for the fourth time.”
Addressing the broader political landscape, Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to all parties to collaborate in forming a coalition government for the greater good of the country. However, he emphasized the need for transparency and integrity in the electoral process amidst ongoing allegations of rigging and irregularities.
Responding to questions regarding the power-sharing formula between the PPP and PML-N, Shehbaz Sharif said consultations are ongoing for government formation, stressing the imperative to prioritize Pakistan’s interests and development.
Shehbaz Sharif underscored the necessity for collective sacrifice and urged for a cohesive approach towards addressing the nation’s pressing issues. He also predicted a looming need for a new IMF bailout package.
