ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday announced that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has been elected unopposed new party chairman in the intra-party elections held in Peshawar on the directives of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to the party, all the office-bearers were elected unopposed. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was elected chairman, while Omer Ayub has been elected Central General Secretary; Dr. Yasmeen Rashid has been elected party’s Punjab president, Haleem Adil Sheikh Sindh president; Ali Amin Gundapur Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa president; and Muneer Ahmed has been elected Balochistan president.

Niazullah Khan Niazi, PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner announced the results for the intra-party polls held under the party’s rules 2020, which were revised in 2022, stating that party members would cast their votes to the whole panel.

The ECP had on November 23 annulled the PTI’s intra-party polls held in June 2022, terming them “highly objectionable”. The commission gave the former ruling party 20 days to hold afresh election, if it did not want to lose its electoral symbol — cricket bat.

The order came at a time when general elections are about two months away and political parties are starting their poll campaigns across the country amid PTI’s reservations for not being provided a level-playing field.
