IHC Admits PTI’s Plea for Early Decision in PPP, PML-N Funding Case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday admitted a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking early decision in the case related to the party funds of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

The court directed the registrar office to fix the hearing of the petition on December 22nd. During the hearing, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry pleaded the court to take up the petition before the start of the winter holidays to which, the IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that various important cases were already scheduled for hearing next week. He then said that the plea for early decision in PPP and PML-N funding cases would also be heard before the vacation.

Last week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member Farrukh Habib had filed a separate petition, in which he named the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as a respondent in the case.

PTI prohibited funding case

In August, the ECP ruled against PTI in the prohibited funding case. The commission noted in its decision that the party had received funds from business tycoon Arif Naqvi and 34 other foreign nationals. It said that the party willingly received a prohibited amount of $2,121,500.
