ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday rebuffed media reports quoting PTI chief Imran Khan as claiming that he dissolved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies on the advice of ex-army chief General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Imran Khan’s party claimed in a tweet that the report regarding Khan’s statement was fake news. A private news channel had reported that Imran Khan claimed in an interview on Sunday that, in a meeting with former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, also attended by President Dr. Arif Alvi, the former army chief said that if you (Imran Khan) wanted elections, dissolve the governments.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, while reacting to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) tweet, urged the party on Monday to “not play with the public and not tell lies.”

She said that Imran Khan was the first political leader whose own party was contradicting his remarks. The minister said, “His party’s official social media account is saying, ‘Imran Khan did not say what he said.’

“You [Imran Khan] destroyed the economy and society, poisoned minds, and paralyzed the nation. Why did Imran Khan dissolve the provincial assemblies on the former army chief’s advice?” the minister asked.

Criticizing Imran Khan further, Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed Khan “insulted” the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Punjab, ridiculed their representatives and dissolved the provincial assemblies to come to power.
