ISLAMABD: A local court Saturday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser on judicial remand to Adiala jail.

He was presented in the court presided by Judicial Magistrate Qudratullah by the police a day after his arrest from Islamabad. The court was informed that the accused was arrested in a corruption case pertaining to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, following a request for his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).

Asad Qaiser’s counsel, Shoaib Shaheen, questioned the police’s authority to arrest him. Nevertheless, the court sent him on judicial remand and instructed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ACE to complete the legal procedure within a week.

The PTI stalwart was arrested a day earlier in a raid by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) KP and Islamabad police at his residence here in Banigala area. Later, the PTI, in a statement, strongly denounced the arrest, describing it as a “shameful” act that coincided with the announcement of the election date. The party argued that arrest of former speaker NA raised concerns about the transparency of the electoral process leading up to the elections.
