MULTAN: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Olympic gold medallist, Arshad Nadeem, to honor him at his residence in Mian Channu on Tuesday.
The Olympian and his family accorded a warm reception to CM Maryam Nawaz. She embraced the mother of Arshad Nadeem, Razia Parveen and greeted her for the milestone achievement of Nadeem in the Olympic games.
Olympian Arshad Nadeem on the occasion recalled his struggle to win a gold medal in the historic Olympic competition.
CM Punjab awarded a check worth Rs 100 million with the key of a Honda Civic with an exclusive number plate 92.97 symbolizing his achievement by throwing the javelin to the record distance of 92.97 in the Olympics.
She also awarded a check worth Rs. 5 million to the coach, Salman Iqbal Butt on the occasion.
Nadeem and the family expressed gratitude to the CM for visiting them to acknowledge the hallmark achievement outpouring globally.
His record-breaking performance not only earned him a gold medal but also ended a 118-year-old Olympic record, making him the first Pakistani to clinch an individual gold medal in the field and track category at the Olympics.
He received his gold medal at a ceremony held on Friday at the Paris Olympics 2024 in Champions Park near the Eiffel Tower. His record-setting throw of 92.97 meters in the second attempt clinched the gold, surpassing Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen’s previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters from the 2008 Beijing Games.
In recognition of his historic feat, President Asif Ali Zardari announced ‘Hilal e Imtiaz’ for Arshad Nadeem.
