LAHORE: Pakistan’s former Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, suffered a minor fracture after slipping in the jail bathroom on March 17, reported by jail authorities to an anti-corruption court on Tuesday.
The superintendent of Adiala jail submitted a report detailing the incident, along with Elahi’s medical report, to Anti-Corruption Court Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta during proceedings related to the Punjab Assembly illegal appointments case.
Due to an incomplete number of accused, the court noted that the indictment could not proceed. Further hearings were adjourned until April 4, with all accused summoned for indictment on the next hearing date.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the indictment of Parvez Elahi has been delayed, as his indictment was also postponed during previous hearings on March 6 and March 11.
The case, registered by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab, alleges that Parvez Elahi engaged in unlawful appointments and received kickbacks. The ACE alleged that qualified candidates were overlooked while appointments were made based on influence and bribes during Elahi’s tenure as chief minister.
