LAHORE: Dengue cases are on the rise in Punjab as 86 new cases were reported from various areas of the province in the last 24 hours.

Most of these cases—74 in total—were recorded in Rawalpindi, while Gujranwala, Attock, Sheikhupura, and Mianwali each reported two cases. Health department sources indicate that the total number of dengue cases in Punjab has risen to 1,044 following the addition of 377 new cases.

A spokesperson for the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department stated that hospitals are fully equipped with the necessary medicines and treatments to tackle the virus. In light of the surge in cases, the health department has issued an advisory urging citizens to maintain a clean and dry environment to prevent mosquito breeding. They also called for public cooperation with health teams that are actively working to control the outbreak. A free helpline (1033) has been established for those seeking treatment, information, or to register complaints related to dengue.

Health officials stressed the need for vigilance and proactive measures to limit the spread of the virus throughout the Punjab. Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir announced the opening of clinics for hepatitis and non-communicable diseases (NCD) under the chief minister’s directive, further improving the healthcare system in the city.
