MOSCOW, Russia: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that he expects Chinese leader Xi Jinping to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, scheduled for October 22-24.
Putin made the statement during a meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
Since the Ukraine conflict began, Putin has sought closer ties with Xi, increasing trade to counteract Western sanctions. The BRICS group—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—represents nearly half the world’s population and has expanded to include other emerging economies like the UAE and Iran. The upcoming summit aims to strengthen economic alliances and counter Western dominance.
Moscow and Beijing share a common stance against “Western hegemony” and have declared a “no limits” partnership, reaffirming their cooperation on economic and geopolitical issues, particularly in response to what they view as U.S. dominance.
