BEIRUT: A son of Libya’s former ruler Muammar Qaddafi is suffering deteriorating health during the second week of a hunger strike to protest his imprisonment in Beirut, Lebanon without trial, his lawyer Paul Romanos said Friday.

Hannibal Qaddafi’s lawyer said that his client is suffering from muscle pains and weakness.  He said earlier this month that Hannibal Qaddafi is also suffering from back pain. He added that Qaddafi is being held in a very small room where he cannot move or exercise freely.

Qaddafi’s son has been detained in Lebanon since 2015 following he was briefly abducted from Syria, where he had been living as a refugee.

Lebanese police officials later announced it had taken Hannibal from Baalbek where he was being detained. Hannibal Qaddafi has been detained in a jail in Beirut without trial since then.

Qaddafi was killed by his opponents in 2011, ending his four-decade rule in the African country.
