GAZA CITY: The military wing of Hamas, the al-Qassam Brigades, has issued a stern warning about the potential fallout from the recent assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, their leader, calling the attack a “dangerous event” that will have “major repercussions” across the region.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Qassam Brigades expressed deep grief and anger over Haniyeh’s death, which they attributed to a “cowardly Zionist assassination operation.” The attack reportedly took place early in the morning in Tehran, where Haniyeh was staying at a residence designated for military veterans.

The Qassam Brigades’ statement praised Haniyeh as a key figure in the Palestinian cause, highlighting his dedication and contributions to the resistance movement. The statement emphasized that Haniyeh’s martyrdom during the current battle for Al-Aqsa would mark a major shift in regional dynamics.

According to the Brigades, the assassination represents a major escalation by Israel and a dangerous miscalculation that will provoke significant regional consequences. “The criminal assassination of the leader Haniyeh in the heart of the Iranian capital is a significant and dangerous event that shifts the battle to new dimensions,” the statement read.

The Brigades accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of driving the conflict toward a more dangerous state and warned of a broader conflict.

The Brigades urged all nations and peoples of the region to support the Palestinian resistance, framing it as crucial to defending against escalating Israeli aggression. They vowed that the bloodshed would not be in vain and promised that Israel would face repercussions in Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond.

On Wednesday, Iranian media reported that Haniyeh was killed by an air-launched missile in Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the attack, identifying it as a targeted strike that resulted in Haniyeh’s death and that of a bodyguard.

The attack reportedly took place at around 2 a.m. local time at a residence used by military veterans in northern Tehran. The IRGC described the incident as a “hit” on Haniyeh’s location.
