DOHA: QatarEnergy has warned that liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries from Qatar might face delays due to attacks in the Red Sea. However, QatarEnergy said that the attacks have not impacted LNG production.
In a statement, the state-owned company assured that Qatar’s LNG production remains uninterrupted, and efforts are ongoing to ensure a reliable supply to customers.
The company acknowledged that the Red Sea developments might affect the scheduling of some deliveries as alternative routes are considered. The Yemeni Houthis initiated strikes in the Red Sea in November, impacting global maritime trade routes in response to the Israel continues air, land and sea attacks against Palestinians in which around 25000 people, mostly women and children, were killed. Some shipping companies are diverting routes around southern Africa to avoid the conflict.
Qatar’s Prime Minister previously stated that LNG shipments would be affected by the Houthi strikes, describing the situation in the Red Sea as the most dangerous escalation in the region affecting global trade.
Recent joint strikes by US and British forces targeted the Houthis, leading the group to declare US and British interests as legitimate targets.
