DOHA: Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has met Syria’s new foreign minister in Doha and discussed bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in Syria after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met on Sunday with a high-level Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
During the meeting, the two sides dealt with bilateral ties and ways to bolster them. They also discussed the latest developments in Syria, with a focus on enhancing Qatari humanitarian aid to end the suffering of the Syrian people.
The Prime Minister reiterated Qatar’s unwavering support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and independence. He emphasised the importance of fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people for a dignified life and the establishment of a state governed by institutions and the rule of law.
Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani posted on X that he is also set to visit Jordan and the United Arab Emirates to develop strategic partnerships and support Syria’s security and economic recovery.

Earlier this week, Shaibani headed a high-ranking delegation to Riyadh that included the new government’s defence minister and intelligence chief.
It was the first foreign visit by Syria’s new rulers since they ousted President Bashar Al-Assad last month.
Al-Shibani met with his Saudi counterpart in Riyadh on Thursday. And he also welcomed the foreign ministers of Germany and France in Damascus on Friday.
Investment from Gulf
The new government is eager for investment from Gulf States to help rebuild the country’s infrastructure and boost the economy, shattered by more than a decade of war.
In an interview, Syria’s New Leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa said “Saudi Arabia has a major role in Syria’s future,” adding that the Kingdom has major investment opportunities in Syria.
In an interview with FRANCE 24 and a group of foreign journalists last month, Ahmed al-Sharaa called on Western nations to lift the international sanctions imposed on the country.
