Qatar Signs Contract with Lopez

DOHA: The Qatar Football Association has announced that Marquez Lopez, the coach who led Qatar to victory in the Asian Cup, has been awarded a contract extension until 2026 and will assume full-time leadership of the team.

Lopez initially took the helm on an interim basis from Al-Wakrah in late December, succeeding Carlos Queiroz and guiding the host nation to their second consecutive title. The Association expressed gratitude to Al-Wakrah Sports Club for their cooperation in facilitating Lopez’s appointment.

Qatar Signs Contract with Lopez

They will next match against Kuwait on March 21 in Asia’s preliminaries for the 2026 World Cup. Qatar, yet to qualify for the World Cup finals through preliminaries, currently leads their group, also featuring India and Afghanistan, with six points from two matches. The top two teams in the group will progress to the next phase.
