ISLAMABAD: Only 29 Pakistani universities made it to the ‘’Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023’’ which is an annual publication of university rankings by the Times Higher Education magazine, it emerged on Wednesday.
According to the 2023 World University Rankings, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is at the top of list among Pakistani universities. Government college university Faisalabad and University of Management and Technology is on second and third number following Quaid-i-Azam university in the list respectively.
Among 53 Pakistani universities present on the list, 24 Pakistani universities have been assigned with a “reporter” status on the 2023 rankings. The ‘’reporter’’ status indicates that even though these universities provided the necessary information for evaluation, they did not satisfy the ‘’THE World University Rankings’’ requirements to be given a rank on the 2023 list.
A record number of 1,799 universities were ranked in the ‘’THE World university ranking 2023’’ list, drawn from 104 countries around the world. Thirteen different performance criteria are used to evaluate institutions, giving the most comprehensive picture of excellence among top research universities.
Pakistan is far behind in the education sector and there are only a handful of universities with good quality of education. Rest of the universities are giving degrees not knowledge to students. As a result, the higher education sector has produced many times more research papers and granted more local PhD degrees than ever before which is destroying Pakistan’s education system.
