Qin Gang Replaces Wang Yi as China’s New Foreign Minister

ISLAMABAD: China has named Qin Gang as its new foreign minister who will replace the incumbent Wang Yi. Qin Gang is current China’s envoy to the United States while Wang Yi has been made a member of the Chinese Communist party’s top body, the.

Beijing has not disclosed when will Qin assume the post of foreign minister.

Regarding Qin Gang’s appointment, China’s current Assistant Foreign Minister wrote the following post on Twitter:

This is a surprise move as China’s new administration is to be headed by a new prime minister. For this, the annual parliamentary session will be held from March 5, 2023, onwards. During this, a new central cabinet will replace that of PM Li Keqiang. China’s parliament is known as the National People’s Congress.

With the exception of President Xi Jinping, all other officials and top ministers will be replaced during the session.

After 10 years at the helm as prime minister, Li Keqiang will retire. Li Qiang is expected by most observers to replace the incumbent.
