ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is set to reintroduce the “Safari Tourist Train” to showcase the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Potohar Region, with its journey beginning from the historic Golra Station in Islamabad and concluding at Attock Khurd.
The Safari Train will embark on its voyage from Golra Station, passing through Hasan Abdal, Attock, and Attock Khurd Railway stations. Of particular note, Attock Khurd is home to the oldest railway museum, boasting a wealth of historical artifacts.
The primary objective of this tourist train is to promote tourism and acquaint passengers with the railway’s deep-rooted heritage, catalyzing tourism development.
An official told APP that the passengers will be treated to breathtaking views of the Potohar landscape, including the majestic Margallah Hills, the Sangjani tunnel, and various bridges such as Chablal Bridge, Haro Bridge, Ghazi Borotha, and Attock Khurd bridges. Additionally, the train will traverse the old iron girder bridge spanning the Indus River, connecting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
Golra Station, steeped in British colonial history, hosts the sprawling Islamabad Railway Museum, which showcases an array of railway artifacts, including ancient steam engines and heritage railway kitchens.
Upon reaching Attock Khurd Station, passengers will have the opportunity to explore the scenic beauty and recreational spots along the Indus River.
The Safari Train itself has undergone a remarkable transformation, featuring meticulously designed interiors, delectable onboard cuisine, and arrangements for high tea. Luxurious seating and newly constructed washrooms enhance passenger comfort and convenience.
Preparations for the Safari Train are nearing completion, with an official announcement regarding the commencement date expected soon.
Departures for the Safari Train are scheduled every Sunday at 9 am, with return trips from Attock at 6:30 pm. Ticket prices vary depending on the type of accommodation, with special discounts available for students from educational institutions.
