BRIDGETOWN: The highly anticipated T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa faces uncertainty due to rain forecasted in Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval on Saturday. The final match, scheduled to start at 10:30 am local time, may encounter delays or interruptions as weather conditions remain unpredictable.

India, having secured a spot in the final after an undefeated streak, aims to clinch their second T20 World Cup title, with their last triumph dating back to 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. On the other hand, South Africa enters their maiden ICC tournament final, marking a historic achievement for the Proteas.

Throughout the tournament, rain has been a persistent threat, nearly affecting India’s semifinal clash against England earlier in the week. However, favorable conditions eventually allowed India to emerge victorious and advance to the final. The looming weather forecast indicates thunderstorms particularly during the morning hours, with a 51 percent chance of rain from 6 to 8 am local time.

According to Accuweather, conditions are expected to improve slightly as the day progresses, although intermittent showers could persist into the afternoon. ICC regulations stipulate that every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day, even if it means reducing the number of overs. A minimum of 10 overs per side is required to constitute a match, ensuring a result if weather conditions permit.

In the event that rain prevents play on June 29, the ICC has designated June 30 as the reserve day. The match would resume from the same point where it left off, aiming to conclude the final and crown the tournament champion without further delay.
