Rain, Thunderstorm Hit Most Parts of Pakistan, Met Office Forecasts Further Rainfall

ISLAMABAD: The unexpected rainfall in the federal capital has created a surreal atmosphere more akin to February or March rather than the onset of June. It is hard to believe that on the 31st of May, the minimum temperature was 18 degrees Celsius and the maximum was 22 degrees Celsius.

This unusual weather phenomenon is not limited to Islamabad alone but has been witnessed in various parts of central and northern Pakistan.

The Met Office has reported heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms in multiple regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm in Past 24 Hours

According to the Met Office, significant rainfall along with hailstorms has been recorded in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours. In Islamabad, rainfall ranged from 3 to 7 mm in different areas.

Balochistan experienced heavier rainfall, with Lasbella receiving 33 mm of rain and Barkhan receiving 8 mm of rain.

In Punjab, Murree received 27 mm of rain, Narowal 18 mm, Sialkot City and Lahore (2 to 15 mm in different areas), Okara 11 mm, Bahawalnagar 10 mm, Jhelum and Gujrat 7 mm, Mangla 6 mm, Gujranwala and Bhakkar 5 mm, Rawalpindi (4 to 5 mm), Kasur 4 mm, Hafizabad 3 mm, Bahawalpur (2 to 3 mm), and Multan received 2 mm of rain.

In Kashmir, Rawalakot recorded 24 mm of rain, Garhidupatta 16 mm, Kotli 13 mm, and Muzaffarabad 9 mm of rain.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw rainfall in Malamjabba with 21 mm, followed by Kakul with 18 mm, Parachinar 13 mm, Drosh 7 mm, Bannu and Balakot 6 mm, Kalam and Saidu Sharif 5 mm, Dir and Chitral 4 mm, and Cherat and Mirkhani 2 mm of rain.

In Sindh, Sukkur, Rohri, Tando Jam, and Khairpur received rainfall ranging from 1 to 8 mm, while Gupis in Gilgit-Baltistan received 4 mm of rain.

Despite heavy rainfall in most parts of the country, certain areas in Sindh experienced warm and hot weather, with Dadu recording the highest temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Shaheed Benazirabad at 41 degrees Celsius, and Dalbandin and Nokkundi at 40 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Forecast for Next 24 Hours

The Met Office has predicted further rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast Balochistan, Punjab, Upper Sindh, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.
