ISLAMABAD: Rain with snowfall over the mountainous areas is likely in Islamabad, Potohar region, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and northern and western Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
During the forecast period, moderate to heavy rain with snowfall is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dense fog will likely subside in plain Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
According to the synoptic situation, a westerly wave affecting western parts of the country was likely to grip upper and western parts in the next 24 hours and may persist in upper parts from January 11-13.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has alerted the concerned authorities about the possible rain impacts during the next two days.
Rain with snowfall forecasted
The PMD has warned that heavy snowfall may disrupt and cause the closure of roads in Kaghan, Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Haveli, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, and Poonch and from January 11-13.
The possibility of landslides in Gilgit Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir can not be ruled out. Tourists and travellers are advised to remain extra cautious during the rain spell.
Rain will benefit the various standing crops, particularly in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Foggy conditions are expected to subside during the rain forecast period. Temperatures are likely to decrease significantly during and after the rain spell.
During the last 24 hours, cloudy and cold weather prevailed over most parts of Pakistan, while 02 mm of rain was recorded in Kalam.
Foggy conditions prevailed over plain areas of upper Sindh and Punjab.
The 01 inches of snowfall was recorded in Kalam and Astore, while traces were found in Bagrote.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded during the period were Gupis -08, Leh -09 C, Hunza, Kalam -06, Ziarat, Astore and Malamjabba -03C, Parachinar -05, Skardu -04.
