Rains, Snowfall Disrupts Daily Life in Several Parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Continuous heavy rainfall in most parts of Pakistan with snowfall in the northern and western parts brought mercury down but also disrupted daily life. The continued rain and hailstorm in some parts with thunderstorms also caused a number of tragic incidents in different parts of Pakistan.

According to Met Office, rain hit different parts of the country from Karachi to Baluchistan including Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. In addition, most of the northern parts received heavy snowfall including Muree, Waziristan, Kalam, Kumrat, Upper Dir, Chitral and the mountain areas of Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

Due to rain most roads in Karachi were flooded with water causing havoc for the commuters and pedestrians. In Lahore, Gulberg, Cantonment area, Lakshmi Chowk, Johar Town, Defense, Canal Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Wahdat Road, Mall Road and surrounding areas received rain.

Apart from Lahore other parts of the province witnessed rain including Kasur, Muridke, Phoolnagar, Sharaqpur, and Jhang. The intermittent rain and snowfall also brought the temperature down from 2 to 4 degrees centigrade.

Damages Due to Rain, Snowfall

A number of tragic incidents were also reported due to rain and snowfall. Three people in Kamalia, lost their lives when a dilapidated house collapsed. In another incident in Kharan, three others lost their life including two children.

In addition, due to heavy rain drainage system and rescue infrastructure have been severely affected, in Gwadar Baluchistan forcing residents to other safe places.

In Sibbi and nearby areas, the continuous rain for over 14 hours, resulted in a significant increase in the water levels of rivers and canals in the area. The irrigation department has issued a high alert, advising emergency rescue teams to remain alert for any uneven situation.

Snowfall

Meanwhile, the western and northern parts of the country received heavy snowfall including Azad Kashmir, Muree, Galiyat, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Dir Upper, Kumrat, Chitran, Waziristan and parts of Baluchistan.

The Provincial Disaster Management also issued an alert for the locals and tourists to avoid unnecessary travelling and keep themselves away from land sliding and road blockades.
