JAIPUR: Former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik has said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was a “serious candidate” for the slot of prime minister and if it was in his destiny, he would become one”.

According to NDTV, when asked about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP’s) prospects of the win in the Lok Sabha elections next year, he said that he wished them well but added that in politics and elections, no one knew what would happen. He said that the current situation was difficult for the BJP and they would have to do some things.

He said that it was “wrong” to say that he was raising questions about the 2019 Pulwama terror attack only after he left office.

Malik remarks came in response to a question raised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who said that Singh was “levelling allegations after parting ways with the BJP.

Malik told reporters in Sikar in Rajasthan that it was wrong to say he raised the issue after leaving the office. He said he had raised the issue on the day of the attack.

Malik recently blamed intelligence failure for the Pulwama attack and claimed that the central government denied aircraft for the movement of security personnel.

Malik said that Modi’s silence on the Adani issue would harm him. The prime minister should also speak on the Pulwama issue, he said.

In the context of Rajasthan, where assembly elections were due later this year, Malik said that if the BJP projects Vasundhara Raje as a candidate for the chief ministerial slot, its chances of victory will increase.
