Rawalpindi Police Net 17,758 Lawbreakers in Six Months

RAWALPINDI: In the past six months, the Rawalpindi district police successfully apprehended 17,758 individuals involved in various criminal activities.

As per the details, this includes 980 members associated with 380 criminal gangs, from whom stolen cash and valuable items amounting to Rs 730 million were recovered. The police efforts resulted in the retrieval of more than 150 stolen vehicles and over 1,450 stolen motorcycles during this period.

Raids targeting drug traffickers led to the arrest of more than 3,600 persons, along with the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances, including 63 tons of hashish, 1 ton of heroin, over 8 kg of Ice, 19 kg of opium, and over 16,000 liters of liquor. Notably, 1,100 major drug dealers were apprehended in the last two months alone.

In operations against illegal weapons, the police detained 2,153 suspects and confiscated 95 Kalashnikovs, 90 shotguns, 92 rifles, 1,858 pistols, 7 revolvers, 7 carbines, 60 daggers, and thousands of bullets.

The police also acted against gambling activities, resulting in the arrest of 829 individuals in 151 cases. Confiscated items included over Rs 4.2 million in state money, 628 mobile phones, 50 motorcycles, 6 cars, and other items. Additionally, 105 individuals were arrested in 29 cases registered under the Sound System Act.

Furthermore, 67 individuals involved in 66 cases of sexual harassment were arrested and brought to justice. In the crackdown against proclaimed offenders, the police arrested 257 individuals classified as ‘A’ category and 1,674 individuals categorized as ‘B’ category criminals. —APP
