ISLAMABAD: According to US transport officials, in 2022, firearms seized at US airports surpassed previous records.

Till the middle of December, around 6,301 guns were confiscated at checkpoints across America. Eighty-eight percent of these weapons were loaded at the time of their seizure, reported Saudi Gazette.

As per the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s estimates, by the end of 2022, the total amount would rise to around 6,600. As compared to the numbers in 2021, these numbers are a rise of 10 percent.

Firearm confiscation at US airports costly for passengers

TSA said guns that were brought to US airports have resulted in a significant loss of resources, and for passengers, this would be very costly.

The highest number of firearms confiscation occurred at Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta. In contrast, the numbers at Texas’ Dallas/Fort Worth Airport grabbed the second spot.

Regarding the TSA actions at the Atlanta airport, a Twitter user posted the following tweet:

The TSA did not elaborate on the reason behind passengers bringing weapons to the airport and making an effort to carry them past the security checkpoints.

Carrying a firearm in the passenger cabin of an airplane is not allowed

Every US state has a different gun law; however, on airplanes, guns are not allowed in the passenger cabin area. This condition does not alter even if the bearer of the firearm has a permit for concealed weapons.

The Transportation Security Administration has announced plans to raise the top civil penalty for violations pertaining to firearms from $13,910 to $14,950.
