PHILADELPHIA: The four-legged war machine developed by the scientists in United States, with the next-generation gun system, may be used in future wars.

According to the US media reports on Sunday the terminator-style quadruped, known as Q-UGV, has an artificial intelligence (AI) powered imaging system that can automatically detect and track potential targets.

The bot must be in the control of a human operator located anywhere in the world as it cannot shoot autonomously.

The gun-equipped robot has been in the making since 2021 and comes with either a 7.62x39mm caliber or a 6.5mm Creedmoor caliber attached rifle.

Now the machine has been launched with new AI abilities and is being tested by the US Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC).

The spokesperson of MARSOC said the Q-UGV, is a robot dog, currently under evaluation by MARSOC as one of many pieces of technology in ground robotics evaluation.

Eric Shell, head of business development at Onyx Industries, said MARSOC is doing tunnel work with the new bots.

Defense organizations are increasingly turning to technology and AI to reduce the human cost in warfare.
