RIYADH: The Royal Saudi Navy has published a book outlining its rich historical journey from a small military base in Dammam to one of the strongest naval forces in the Middle East, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
The book “The Story of the Royal Saudi Navy: Past, Present and Future,” charts the evolution of the naval force from 1955 to 2020.
Beginning from the establishment and growth of the force between 1955 and 1973, it dives into King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman’s first trip abroad to meet then President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt on an American cruiser — USS Quincy (CA-39) — in the Suez Canal in 1945, a visit that played a key role in establishing a deep friendship between the two countries.

The book also includes photos and historical information about the visits of other royal dignitaries.
The final chapter explores the navy’s development between 2015 to 2020, including the modernization of armament systems, new projects and ship capabilities.
