ISLAMABAD: The ruling alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) called off anti-Chief Justice of Pakistan sit-in outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

To protest against the higher judiciary for providing “blanket relief” to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan, PDM staged a one-day sit-in today (Monday) with its top leadership in attendance while also attracting a good number of political workers.

Protesters started reaching the federal capital in early morning and the JUI-F workers made an entrance into the Red Zone, despite Section 144 in the federal capital.

In his address, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the ruling PDM wanted to restore the dignity and honour of the apex court.

He said the “historic gathering” outside the apex court reflected that the people should make the nation’s decisions.

Fazl vows to protect Supreme Court

Fazl also vowed to protect the Supreme Court of Pakistan building, saying no one can dare to cause any harm to the court in the presence of the PDM’s protesters.

Addressing the protesters, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that the ruling PDM did not want to stage a sit-in outside the apex court as they respect the Constitution and judges.

She said that Pakistan’s progress and destruction were linked to this key building. The verdicts of the judiciary are responsible for the destruction of the country.

Maryam also clarified that her criticism was not aimed at the judges but at those elements in the top court who are facilitating PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Referring to the recent violent protests following Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case, she said it was the responsibility of the judiciary to hold accountable the elements spreading anarchy and chaos in the country.

She also strongly criticized the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, for his alleged pro-PTI verdicts.
