ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a review petition challenging the Supreme Court’s recent decision that granted reserved seats eligibility to the PTI.

The PML-N contends that PTI was not a party in the original case brought by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

In its petition, PML-N argues that the Supreme Court’s decision to award reserved seats to PTI based on SIC’s plea constitutes a breach of legal principles. The petition names SIC and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as respondents.

The move follows a press conference by Federal Information Minister Ata Tarar, where he announced the government’s decision, along with coalition parties, to file a review petition against the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Tarar questioned the presence of the parties benefiting from the decision during the court proceedings and raised concerns about the implementation of constitutional provisions.

Earlier, a 13-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa ruled 8-5 in favor of PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats, overturning the Peshawar High Court’s decision and the ECP’s stance denying reserved seats to SIC.
