MOSCOW: Russia announced on Wednesday that it had destroyed three Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea, marking a response to an earlier Ukrainian attack on a shipyard located in Russian-annexed Crimea.
The Russian Defence Ministry issued a statement via Telegram, disclosing that its Black Sea Fleet aviation units had “identified and eliminated three unmanned boats belonging to the Ukrainian army.”
Tensions between Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea have escalated since Moscow’s withdrawal from a crucial agreement designed to ensure the safe passage of cargo vessels.
Conflict Between Russia and Ukraine
Earlier on the same day, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that Ukrainian cruise missiles had targeted a shipyard in Sevastopol, a Crimean port. Russia asserted that this attack, which occurred overnight, employed three maritime drones and ten cruise missiles, causing damage to two ships undergoing repairs.
Since Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, the region has been a focal point of conflict, with Ukraine persistently targeting the area in response to Russia’s actions. Recent intensification of attacks in Crimea has mirrored Kyiv’s commitment to reclaim the peninsula.
