MOSCOW, Russia: Russia’s military announced on Friday that it had intercepted 29 Ukrainian drones overnight in the southern Krasnodar region. The defence ministry stated that the region’s aerial defence systems neutralized the drones and five Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles.

The targets of the strikes included the port city of Novorossiisk and an oil depot in Temryuk. Local authorities reported that the strike on Temryuk caused a fire, which burned for several hours before being extinguished, injuring several oil depot workers. However, no injuries were reported from the attack on Novorossiisk.

Krasnodar, known for its resorts and popularity with summer vacationers, has been increasingly targeted as Ukraine steps up attacks on Russian territory. This escalation comes as Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine, making gradual gains along the eastern frontline. Kyiv has vowed to bring the fight to Russian soil in response to the bombardments it has endured since Moscow launched its invasion in February 2022.
