MOSCOW, Russia: Russia announced on Friday that it had downed 87 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 70 targeting the southern Rostov region, which houses the headquarters for its military operation against Kyiv.

The Russian defense ministry declared, “During the night, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to commit a terrorist attack with drones… was foiled.”

In total, 87 drones were intercepted across various Russian regions: 70 over Rostov, six each over Kursk and Voronezh, and two each over Volgograd and Belgorod.

Regional governor Vasily Golubev reported no human casualties in Rostov but noted that the drone attacks caused power cuts in several areas.

As per regional governor Aleksander Gusev, falling debris caused minor damage to a fuel reservoir in Voronezh, which borders Ukraine.

This interception highlights the ongoing tensions and conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the volatility in the region and the continuous use of drone technology in modern warfare.
