MOSCOW: Russia deployed a total of 36 Iranian-manufactured attack drones in an overnight assault on southern Ukraine, causing damage to infrastructure in the Odesa region, as confirmed by local authorities.

The drone strikes specifically targeted the regions of Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson, according to reports from the Ukrainian military. It was noted that Ukrainian air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 27 of these drones.

Oleh Kiper, the Governor of Odesa, acknowledged that the attacks had impacted unspecified “logistics infrastructure” but fortunately did not result in any reported injuries.

There has been no immediate response or comment from Russian authorities regarding the drone strikes.

This incident is part of a series of ongoing missile and drone strikes carried out by Russian forces on infrastructure in southern Ukraine in recent weeks and months. These attacks have frequently targeted port facilities in the region, posing a significant challenge for Ukraine’s security and stability.

Additionally, the Kherson regional administration reported that Russia had launched 79 separate attacks, including mortar fire, artillery shelling, and drone strikes, within the past day. These attacks resulted in injuries to four individuals and caused damage to several buildings in the Kherson region.

The situation underscores the volatile nature of the conflict in Ukraine’s southern regions, with ongoing hostilities impacting civilians and critical infrastructure. It also highlights the complex dynamics involving foreign-made weaponry, such as the Iranian-manufactured drones used in the attacks.
