ST. PETERSBURG: Pakistan and Russia on Friday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the railway sector.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The document aims to explore opportunities for implementing railway uplift projects and other initiatives within this important sector.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Railways, the MoU provides a framework for potential future cooperation with relevant companies operating in this sector.

Furthermore, it seeks to boost and streamline international cargo transport.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Russia Muhammad Khalid Jamali and Deputy Transport Minister of Russia, D.S. Zverev signed the MoU.
Pakistan Railways, a state-owned entity was founded in 1861 as the North Western State Railway. It has 7,789 kilometres of operational track across Pakistan, stretching from Peshawar to Karachi, offering both passenger and freight services, covering 488 operational stations.
