RUSKI TYSHKY: Russia on Monday pummelled more than 30 towns and villages in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region after launching a surprise ground offensive over the border last week, the local governor said.
The surprise assault, launched last week, has prompted widespread evacuations and inflicted significant damage on civilian infrastructure, with reports of casualties emerging from the embattled region.
The onslaught, characterized by intense artillery bombardments and aerial assaults, has plunged Kharkiv into chaos, with local officials describing the situation as “complex and dynamically changing.” Ukrainian forces acknowledge that Russia has made tactical gains, seizing control of several border villages and mounting relentless assaults across multiple fronts.
Sergiy Kryvetchenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian military administration in the village of Lyptsi, provided harrowing accounts of the onslaught, detailing the indiscriminate shelling and aerial bombings targeting civilian areas. The assault, he lamented, spared no one, with guided aerial bombs and artillery rounds raining down on defenseless communities.
Kharkiv’s regional governor, Oleg Synegubov, underscored the severity of the attacks, reporting widespread devastation and escalating casualties. Over the course of the offensive, more than 30 towns and villages have borne the brunt of Russian aggression, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents as the conflict continues to escalate.
As the fighting intensifies, both sides are locked in a deadly struggle for territorial dominance. Ukrainian forces report ongoing clashes in key border areas, with Russian troops deploying significant forces and launching relentless assaults on strategic targets. Despite fierce resistance from Ukrainian defenders, Russia’s advances have prompted fears of further territorial gains and heightened instability along the contested border.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has retaliated with drone strikes on western Russia, targeting critical infrastructure and fueling tensions between the neighboring adversaries.
