Russia Says Plane Carrying Ukrainian POWs Crashes

MOSCOW: Russia has said that an IL-76 military transport plane carrying around 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war crashed in the western Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, local media reported on Wednesday.

The RIA-Novosti news agency cited the ministry of defence as saying “On board were around 65 captured Ukrainian army servicemen being shifted to the Belgorod region for exchange, six crew members and three escorts.

Russian media also cited the ministry of defence that “65 Ukrainian POWs have been on board, while being shifted to the Belgorod region for exchange, along with six aircraft crew members and three accompanying persons”.
