ISLAMABAD: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is expected to arrive in Islamabad on October 14 to attend the heads of state meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Diplomatic sources confirm that Mishustin will be accompanied by a delegation, including Russian officials and journalists. The visit comes just a month after Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk’s trip to Pakistan.
During his stay, Mishustin will meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior leaders to discuss bilateral relations. A state dinner will also be held in his honor.
In addition to Mishustin, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang is scheduled to visit Pakistan on the same day, marking the first visit of a Chinese premier to the country in 11 years. Li will be accompanied by a high-level delegation for a three-day visit, which will be split into two parts. The first segment will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly around the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and security concerns for Chinese citizens in Pakistan. The second part, beginning October 15, will involve multilateral discussions at the SCO summit.
The visit is expected to lead to the signing of several agreements, reinforcing the long-standing cooperation between China and Pakistan.
This dual high-profile visit underscores the significance of Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy and the SCO’s importance as a platform for dialogue on economic and security matters in Central and South Asia.
