KHERSON: Russian shelling at the residential building in Ukraine’s Kherson city, has killed at least two people and injured seven others, said Ukrainian officials on Sunday.

They said the shelling at the multi-storey residential building hit an elderly man in his garage, and damaged two medical facilities.

Russian troops last year quit Kherson and the western bank of the Dnipro River but regularly shell those areas from different positions.

Head of Kherson city’s military administration Roman Mrochko told media that shelling killed two people and injured seven in an area.

Meanwhile, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said the shelling also killed an elderly woman at a bus stop near the high-rise building. He said three women and two men had light to moderate injuries.

Earlier the Russian defense ministry announced that its forces had successfully targeted a fortified commander post of Ukraine’s “East” air defense and alerting center in the central city of Dnipro.

The Ukraine’s air force on Sunday reported that Russia launched 12 drones and a cruise missile overnight, with Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepting and destroying 10 drones before they could reach their targets.

The ongoing conflict has seen both sides engaging in a war of words and accusations, with each party providing divergent accounts of the situation on the ground.
