Russian Deputy PM, Pakistan Army Chief Discuss Strengthening Defense Ties

ISLAMABAD: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, who is on a two-day official visit to Pakistan, called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters, the military media wing ISPR stated in a press release on Wednesday.

During their meeting, they engaged in productive discussions on mutual interests, regional security dynamics, and bilateral cooperation across various sectors, ISPR stated.

The COAS emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing traditional defence ties with Russia. Both parties reaffirmed their determination to strengthen security and defence collaboration in multiple areas.

The visiting dignitary commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their crucial role in combating terrorism and their relentless efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

Earlier today, Pakistan and Russia during delegation-level talks agreed to enhance dialogue and cooperation in trade, industry, energy, connectivity, science, technology, and education.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his Russian counterpart, Alexei Overchuk, the two sides reviewed the full range of bilateral cooperation and committed to ongoing coordination in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk’s visit aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Vladimir Putin to transform bilateral relations into a strong and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

At a joint news conference along with his Russian counterpart in Islamabad, Dar highlighted that bilateral trade reached one billion dollars last year, emphasizing the importance of addressing logistical and related issues to enhance trade ties.
