MOSCOW, Russia: Russian forces announced on Tuesday that they had successfully captured the key logistical hub of New York, also known by its former name, Novgorodskoye, in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

The capture of this strategic town is a significant development in Moscow’s ongoing offensive, especially as it faces increased pressure from a Ukrainian counteroffensive.

The Russian defence ministry described New York as “one of the largest settlements of the Toretsk agglomeration,” highlighting its strategic importance due to its role as a critical logistics hub in the region.

This victory for Russian forces comes amid a broader campaign to consolidate control over key areas in eastern Ukraine, where the conflict has been intensely focused.

The capture of New York marks a notable advancement in Russia’s military objectives, as control over this hub could enhance its ability to supply and reinforce its troops in the contested Donetsk region. The ongoing conflict, marked by territorial gains and losses on both sides, continues to escalate, with both Moscow and Kyiv striving for strategic advantages in this protracted war.
