MOSCOW: In another significant loss for the Russian military, a Russian General has been killed while deployed in the war-torn Ukraine, the governor of Russia’s Voronezh region confirmed.

Major General Vladimir Zavadsky, deputy commander of the 14th Army Corps of the Northern Fleet, met his demise in the line of duty within a special operation zone, according to Governor Gusev’s statement on Telegram. While details surrounding the circumstances of Zavadsky’s death were not explicitly specified, Gusev paid tribute to the fallen general, hailing him as “a courageous officer, a real general, and a worthy man.”

Losses to Russian Military in Ukraine

Russian authorities have been notably reserved in acknowledging their military losses in Ukraine, but instances of high-ranking officers’ deaths have occasionally come to light. In this case, Russian Telegram channels with sources in the army suggest that Major General Zavadsky lost his life at the end of November after stepping on a mine away from the front line.

Speculation arises as to whether the explosive device was laid by Russian forces, underscoring the hazards faced even by their own personnel.

The unfortunate incident coincides with intensified Russian efforts to seize Avdiivka, an industrial town situated in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine. Avdiivka has emerged as a highly contested point on the front line, witnessing increased military activity as Russian troops continue their offensive in the region.
