KYIV: A Russian missile struck a fire department building in the northern region of Kharkiv on Friday, resulting in injuries to at least eight rescuers, Ukraine’s interior minister said.

The attack targeted the town of Izium, Ihor Klymenko said in a post on the Telegram messaging app that was accompanied by images of the damaged building and fire trucks.

He also mentioned that the building itself and 13 pieces of equipment sustained damage, although the specific type of missile used was not disclosed.

Russian attacks

Russia launched two waves of Shahed drone attacks overnight on the southern regions of Mykolaiv and Kherson. Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for the southern military command, reported that five out of six drones were destroyed in these attacks.

One of the strikes hit an infrastructure object, causing a fire. However, Humeniuk reassured the public that the situation was not critical and the fire had been successfully localized.

There were no casualties in the incident, she further added.
