KYIV: A Russian missile strike killed four people in Ukraine along with hitting a hospital in eastern Ukraine, officials said on Monday, as on a visit to Britain, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky won the promise of “hundreds” of more drones and missiles.

The national police force of Ukraine said that the attack on the front-line city of Avdiivka was one of the waves of strikes that damaged a total of 57 residential buildings in 13 localities.

Donetsk regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said that as a result of a missile attack on Avdiivka, four people died. He said that Russians attacked the city in the morning with missiles, hitting a hospital too.

Ukraine also claimed advances around Bakhmut as its armed forces prepared for a counter-offensive over a year after the invasion ordered by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, in February 2022.

Ukraine receives more military aid packages

While Russia’s ally China attempts to act as a peace broker, sending an envoy to Kyiv this week, Zelensky received major more military aid packages during weekend visits to France and Germany.

He travelled to Britain on Monday for talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who offered Ukraine hundreds of air-defense missiles and long-range attack drones. The Kremlin claimed that the new British weapons would only cause “further destruction.”

Sunak added that the meeting at the prime minister’s country estate of Chequers was being held ahead of a Council of Europe leaders’ meeting in Iceland and a G7 summit in Japan.

He said that the front lines of Putin’s war of aggression might be in Ukraine, but the fault lines stretch all over the world, vowing that they must not let them down.

Sunak welcomed Zelensky in the same Chequers room where Winston Churchill, Britain’s World War II leader, gave courageous speeches vowing victory over the Nazis.

He informed Zelensky that his leadership, as well as the bravery and fortitude of his people, are an inspiration to all of us.
