FLORIDA, USA: The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that a Russian national living in Sarasota, Florida, has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling, money laundering, and unlawfully exporting technology to Russia that could be utilized in drone development.

Denis Postovoy, 44, faces allegations of procuring and illicitly exporting microelectronic components with potential military applications, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The indictment asserts that Postovoy’s activities involved sending dual-use technology to Russia, which could enhance its capabilities in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves emphasized the seriousness of the charges, noting that the exported technology could directly impact Russia’s military operations.

Postovoy reportedly used a network of companies based in Russia and Hong Kong to acquire these components from U.S. distributors. He is accused of routing the shipments through intermediary locations to obscure their final destination in Russia.

The Russian embassy in the U.S. acknowledged awareness of Postovoy’s detention via Telegram but stated that it had not received any formal notification from U.S. law enforcement.
