MOSCOW: Russia’s Su-57, its latest next-generation fighter jet, has landed in China for its international debut at Airshow China 2024 in Zhuhai, marking the first time the advanced aircraft has been displayed outside Russian territory.
Previously limited to Russian air shows, the Su-57’s appearance in Zhuhai is expected to draw considerable attention from international defence officials and industry experts, with the event scheduled to run throughout the week.
The Su-57’s arrival, reported by Chinese outlet Zaobao, was marked by the landing of the aircraft with serial number “054” on November 3, 2024. This particular jet, originally used for testing, has been upgraded to match the production model specifications. Esteemed test pilot Sergei Bogdan from the Sukhoi Design Bureau is expected to operate the aircraft during its demonstrations.

The Su-57 has been operational since 2022 and has reportedly been equipped with Kh-59 missiles, which are too large for internal storage bays, thus compromising its stealth profile.
