KARACHI: Saim Ayub, the dynamic young talent, has pledged to maintain his fearless approach if he secures his maiden Test cap for Pakistan during the upcoming tour of Australia next month.

As part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship, Pakistan is gearing up for a three-match series against Australia, and Ayub stands as a potential selection in the 18-player squad named earlier this month.

Despite not having made his Test debut yet, the 21-year-old has showcased his skills in eight T20Is for Pakistan this year. His exceptional performance in the domestic circuit, notably with Karachi Whites in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, has further bolstered his case for international recognition.

Ayub, a confident left-handed batsman, aims to seamlessly transition his domestic success to the international stage. He emphasizes that his aggressive approach won’t waver, expressing that the approach should remain fearless, but adapting to conditions and respecting dominant bowlers is crucial. Momentum in a match is ever-changing; it’s about adjusting accordingly. Fearless doesn’t always mean hitting hard; it’s about varying the approach based on the situation.

Eager for the opportunity to represent Pakistan, Ayub acknowledges the need for versatility, understanding that different game situations require varying run rates. He’s optimistic about contributing to the team’s success, stating that I’m looking forward to playing for Pakistan and contributing to our victories.

Despite a competitive top-order lineup for Pakistan, Ayub is ready to compete for his place. With the team set to face an Australian Prime Minister’s XI ahead of the first Test on December 14 in Perth, Ayub sees this as his chance to shine. Notwithstanding Pakistan’s long-standing drought of a Test win in Australia, Ayub embraces the challenge, aiming to contribute to his team’s undefeated run in the current World Test Championship cycle.

“I think it will be fun playing cricket there (in Australia),” Ayub said.

“You’ve to push yourself out of your comfort zone and when there are challenges, there is growth as well and that excites me as a player.

“Players decide for themselves if they want to look at conditions as easy or difficult. What’s more important is the clarity of thought and being fearless with your approach.”

Shan Masood leads the Pakistan Test squad, comprising Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Agha Salman, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, and Shaheen Afridi.
