ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s promising opener Saim Ayub has been ruled out of competitive cricket for up to six weeks after sustaining a right ankle fracture, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Saturday.
The injury occurred during the opening day of the Cape Town Test when the 22-year-old twisted his ankle while fielding at deep third man in the seventh over.
The PCB confirmed in its statement that an MRI conducted on Friday afternoon revealed the extent of the injury, which required immobilization using an Ankle Medical Moon Boot.
Saim will not participate further in the ongoing Test and will remain with the team before travelling back to Pakistan with the squad after the match concludes,” the PCB said.
Known for his aggressive and innovative batting across formats, Saim’s absence is a significant setback for Pakistan’s cricket team.
The ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin in Pakistan in approximately six weeks, is fast approaching, leaving questions about his recovery and availability for the high-profile tournament.
This development follows Saim’s recent impressive performances that solidified his position as one of the country’s rising cricket stars.
