NEW DELHI: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza’s father, Imran Mirza, has firmly denied rumors circulating on social media about Sania’s alleged marriage to Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami.
In an interview with an Indian media outlet, he said, “This is all rubbish. She has not even met him.” Speculations began when both Sania and Shami posted thoughts about the possibility of second marriages on their social media accounts, leading fans to assume a potential life partnership between the two athletes.
The rumors intensified when an AI-generated image, a collection combining Sania’s wedding photo with Shoaib Malik and a picture of Shami with his ex-wife Hasin Jahan, went viral. In the edited image, Hasin Jahan’s picture was replaced with Sania’s, sparking further speculation.
According to an Indian Magazine, these rumors were fueled by several cryptic posts from both stars hinting at new beginnings. Sania married Shoaib Malik in April 2010, and they have a son named Izhaan Mirza-Malik. Rumors of their separation circulated for some time before Shoaib announced his marriage to Pakistani star Sana Javed. Following this, Sania’s family issued a statement confirming the divorce. Shami’s personal life has also been under media scrutiny following his highly publicized separation. Recently, Sania shared a new nameplate on Instagram, post-divorce from Shoaib, which reads “Sania and Izhaan,” signaling a new chapter in her life.
